On Wednesday I made a presentation to our sustainability committee encouraging them to imagine how we can make things better and to imagine what could be. Here is the presentation, enjoy and please share your thoughts. Thank you.
I just saw the move Cowspiracy!: The Sustainability Secret. The trailer below. It was well worth the $9.95 price. Here is a link to some of the powerful facts revealed. I strongly encourage you to see it for yourself.
In other words, we must create that new reality by putting in what we want, it cannot happen from a focus on what to avoid or eliminate. Put effort, thoughts and work into what we are creating. As Mother Theresa stated, “What we are FOR empowers us, what we are against disempowers.” Be FOR what nurtures, creates, and enables a better world!
We can do this with the Selfish, Selfless, Synergy from the practice of paneugenesis which is accomplished by creating comprehensive benefits from interactions so everyone and everything benefits. Make it a Great Week!
The selfish, selfless, synergy or the practice of paneugenesis which is done by creating interactions so everyone and everything benefits is something anyone can build into their life. Of course one of the greatest benefits is the self-worth or good feelings about oneself that is generated by creating such actions beyond the benefits afforded everyone and everything. In the TED presentation below by Aziz Abu Sarah he explains how tourism can make the world a better place – yes tourism!
The examples he provides supply excellent examples of how he is making the world better in his own unique way and may help you think how you could do it in your way. It is the action we take that provides the evidence about ourself we need to feel good. Happiness does not just happen nor is it the our default state. As Martin Seligman in Authentic Happiness, Flourishing and other publications & Tal Ben-ShaHar in Happier and other publications has shown, happiness has to be earned by doing something. Unhappiness on the other hand requires nothing. If you don’t do anything, unhappiness is the outcome most likely.

We recently had one of our studies published, “Initiating Sustainable Behavior: Feel Good for Doing Good” in the Electronic Green Journal. In this study with Emily Ayscue, Janell Lewis (formerly Brockett), Greg Scarola, Tim Kelley and also Attila Kiraly we were able to show behaviors can be changed. The goal of this study was to help people develop pro-environmental behaviors by recycling bottles rather than trashing them. While this is actually just a less bad benefit, many important findings resulted because this confirmed that people want to do the right thing and they feel better about themselves when they do.
