Deserts to Garden – Helping Nature Generate All Good

We wall want a better world – for that to be we will need to dream big. Idealized Outcome are dreaming big because they are things that are not possible right now, but could be with work and effort. We need nature to do what it does. Chris Redmond shares his Idealized Outcome.

What is he talking about? He is talking about turning deserts into gardens. After all, since we have turned gardens into deserts, we should also be able to turn deserts into gardens.

This dream idea is ongoing in the Sinai desert in Egypt. Below is one example of creating a garden, or trees, in a desert.

Here is the Science – More Undoing

So how could this happen. It can happen by using good science. As Allan Savory came to realize, ideas he was taught and were the prevailing style of knowledge, was wrong. He discovered good science enables nature to do what it does best, make life more livable. When nature works, it generates comprehensive benefits and makes life more livable for everyone and everything. In his TED presentation, Allan Savory explains how we can make life more livable…..

Summary & a Way to Generate All Good

Sir David Attenborough the famous natural historian from England has created for Netflix a wonderful documentary, “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet“. This amazing show highlights an even more comprehensive picture of what has happened and how we can generate all good. I strongly encourage you to watch his documentary if you have Netflix, if not, see with someone who does. It is good. Here is a trailer.

If you are interested in learning more, below is the segment 60 Minutes did with Sir David Attenborough that is quite interesting.

What is your dream? What Idealized Outcome are you working toward developing? My projects are focused on helping or “nudging” people toward developing regenerative lifestyles. Regeneration is creating all good and is a way to practice paneugenesis. I encourage you to learn more about Regeneration from Paul Hawken’s 2021book, Regeneration: Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation and his complementary Regeneration website.

These are more ideas of how we can generate comprehensive improvements by creating net-positive, pervasive reciprocal, selfish, selfless, synergistic interactions so everyone and everything benefits – and it is how you Practice Paneugenesis. Nature has all the answers (seeParallel NOT Linear Means Create Positive AND Prevent Negative, We are Just Talking Apes Standing on Natures Shoulders)

Connected Regeneration for a Better Tomorrow – FREE MOVIE

Without question, all things are interconnected. As John Muir, the first elected president of the Sierra Club, explained:

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.

In other words, we are all interdendent on everything else. My paraphrase of what Jane Benyus of Biomimicry Institute demonstrates, a life well lived is one that makes life more livable. In other words, we live a life that make it better for everyone and everything. More about Jane Benyus’s work and Biomimicry is available at this post: Parallel NOT Linear Means Create Positive AND Prevent Negative

This week Ocean Robbins of the Food Revolution Network promoted FREE access to a movie, “The Need to GROW“. This movie demonstrates and emphasizes these interconnection attributes of life on earth and and how they can be used to make life better for all.

The movie demonstrates multiple ways to improve our life that also will diminish problems. To me, it is important to understand, these actions will make our life better today and also make a better tomorrow more likely.

Know that these benefits are not deferred, they are immediate. We feel better right away, we become part of the solution and not part of the problem. It is an emotionally powerful way to practice paneugenesis.

Here is the trailer.

To practice paneugenesis is to generate comprehensive improvements to creating pervasive, reciprocal, selfish, selfless, synergistic interactions so everyone and everything benefits. Why would we do anything else?

I look forward to hearing how you incorporate these ideas into your life and the related benefits you experience.

I encourage you to get the free access and watch “The Need to GROW” at this link.

Rob Herring, the director, shares this:

Please stand with us — telling your friends and loved ones that there is a new film that showcases heartwarming stories and powerful solutions.

You can also give this link to people you know, so they can sign up and join in the free screening too: TheNeedToGROW.com.

Make it a Great Day, Week, Year and Life!

A Clear Message about Climate Change

Amazingly, it has become necessary to go to “Fake” News to get scientifically valid statements about Climate Change. I encourage you to watch John Oliver, and these post, post, post, post, post post or the many of the other posts this site.

Remember making helpful climate choices helps you and everyone and everything benefit because you generate comprehensive improvements. I look forward to hearing how you make your contribution toward making this a better world for all of us to enjoy.

2017 Update: Today’s Pascal’s Wager, One We Must Make!

As an update to this post, I refer you to Thomas Friedman’s September 13, 2017 NYT column, Trump’s Folly.   For me this is similar because Friedman explains, if we prepare for climate change, make the wager we are prepared if it does happen and if it does not happen, “…we will be left healthier, stronger, more productive, more resilient and more respected around the world.”

In the 1660’s mathematician Blaise Pascal created a logic puzzle about a wager related to the question of whether or not to believe in God. He used it as a logic exercise because there is no reason or science that can provide a definitive answer. Tim O’Reilly, CEO of O’Reilly media, described Pascal’s original Wager in John Brockton’s book, “This Explains Everything: Deep Beautiful and Elegant Theories of How the World Works”, in this way:

You must wager. It is not optional. You are embarked. Which will you choose then?…You have two things to lose, the true and the good; and two things to stake, your reason and your will, your knowledge and your happiness; and your nature has two things to shun, error and misery. Your reason is no more shocked in choosing one rather than the other, since you must of necessity choose. This is one point settled. But your happiness? Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances.  If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager then, without hesitation that He is.

It should be understood that Pascal’s argument for faith rested on self-interest. In describing the wager, it was explained that today’s wager we must make or face dire consequences relates to climate change. It also needs to be understood that in reality we have caused climate destabilization, not just warming. The warming triggers a devastating cascade of issues related to survival of humans.

Climate Change, unlike with God’s existence, does provide some reason and science which to many if not most scientists provides a definitive answer. As outlined, the author explains that if we wager that climate change is real we will then:

  1. Develop renewable energy sources
  2. Create an industry and jobs to support and supply clean energy
  3. Direct tax dollars from highways/car to support of clean public transportation
  4. etc…

RESULT: More robust economy!

These actions would also increase national security by lessening our reliance on hostile nations for oil. Also as described by Patrick Kennedy, (see here and here for presentations) a move to clean energy would democratize energy because it would mean we all could all have power, roof solar panels, and then people would not be reliant on energy companies. If people provide their own power this would extinguish much of the influence power companies now exert and have.

Making the wager that climate change is happening, despite some debatable proof, means we will be practicing paneugenesis. To practice paneugenesis means we will be moved to generate comprehensive improvements by creating interactions so everyone and everything benefits. What is the downside to not making this wager? We must remember, certainty about the consequences of Climate Change will only come after all the bets are called in.

Of course thinking about this from the other perspective, what are the benefits of not believing in climate change? Not believing would move us to take actions to protect and maintain the status quo. While this can be done, what happens if we are wrong? Pascal’s wager rests on self-interest.

“The riskiest  thing we can do is maintain the status quo.” – Bob Iger

Alice Bows-Larkin, in her TED Presentation, “Climate Changes is happening. Here’s how we adapt,” makes a case for why this is a wager we have to make now, and we cannot wait.

Logic and facts suggest it is a Wager we Cannot Afford to Not Make. To support making this wager, Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland  (1990-1997),  provides a great  supporting perspective. In her TED Presentation, “Why Climate Change is a Threat to Human Rights”, she talks about these issues based on her experiences as a leader. I encourage you to watch:

Grazing Solution so Everything Benefits!

In a very clear presentation, Alan Savory provides a grazing solution that can do more to improve our environment than almost anything else. He describes a method that makes things more good instead of just limiting related problems. His grazing methods are a way to practice paneugenesis or a way to produce comprehensive benefits by creating interactions so everyone and everything benefits. As you will see this solution utilizes systems thinking and these methods have pervasive impacts by generating a new and better way. Enjoy!

How I formed My Thoughts about Climate Change

Nothing means anything until we decide it does. Climate change is a raging debate. To me it is not a debate and it is from information like what Jim Hansen Presents in this TED talk, Why I had to speak out about climate change – that helped me have my opinion.

He is a former NASA scientist and in February 2012 I believe he gave one of the best presentations about the science behind climate change. I encourage you to watch.
